Saturday morning, West Field in Munhall turned into exactly what we hoped it would: a place where kids showed up as strangers and left as teammates.

Little Legends 21 Day of Play brought together boys and girls ages 5 to 10 for a free morning of baseball fundamentals, no experience required and none expected. Coaches broke down the basics station by station, kids rotated through hitting, throwing and fielding, and by the second hour you could see it click. More than a few Little Legends who came in a little nervous were running the bases like they'd been doing it for years.

Roberto Jr. and Luis Clemente were out there with us, along with MLB players Carlos Baerga, Martín Maldonado, and 3rd base coach for the Pirates Joey Cora, cheering kids on and taking the time to talk with families between drills. It's the kind of morning Roberto Clemente believed every kid deserved: a real chance to play, to belong, and to be told they're doing great.

This is what Little Legends 21 is built for. Not a tryout, not a competition — just a field, a ball, and a few hours where every kid gets to feel like part of a team.

Thank you to every family who spent their Saturday morning with us, and to the volunteers and coaches who made the day run. If you missed this one, follow along for the next Little Legends 21 Day of Play — we'd love to see your Little Legend out there.

⚾ No. 21 forever.

Fair warning from someone who has run maybe fifty images through these: results depend enormously on how hard the shadow edge is. Soft, gradual shading comes out clean nearly every time. A razor-sharp shadow line across a patterned surface will sometimes leave a faint seam. The tool I use is one of the better ones for this but I've never found one that gets the hard cases right first go.
